The time is not too far, when we use mobiles to get coupons and redeem them in physical stores, without the use of paper or copying. These are simple predictions. At present a company named Trip360 is working on it. It uses smart light sensitive shelves, to know when the product is being picked up or put back down. This helps to alert the store to stock out immediately, and it also alerts the staff to a misplaced item. But what they have to do with coupons? They are also working on the system to provide mobiles the information about the products near the customer. Then the mobiles would be able to find coupons for the customer based on the products right next to them.In this way, without having to look up stuff and bring stuff with you, you can determine the lowest priced product right in front of you after taking coupons into account.
But how about using them? Anyhow many people already have a frequent shopper card which keeps track of how much they spent and sometimes exactly what they spent it on. The coupon program on the mobile can be advanced so that it could put the coupon directly into the account linked to the shopper card. Then, when we go to the checkout lane and scan the card, the discounts can be applied automatically.
But what is the need for the store owner to take the trouble of implementing such a complicated system just to give the coupons to the customers, when they can just give coupons to them by hand if they had to? Instead of just placing coupons in customer's hand,
it does much more things to happen. By keeping track of items that are picked up and put back down, where there are stock outs and misplaced items, they can also do much more than just keeping the store stocked and in order. They can track the customer behavior. They can see which items are almost being bought by people,which areas are more frequently visited, or even which products never taken into consideration, let least purchased. Optimizing such things can lead to huge profits for the grocery store, and more savings for us.
